Simplicity

(the adjective, not the patterns!)

I am a very indecisive person.  I don't know what I want until I actually spend some quality time thinking about it.   I tend to be easily influenced by other's opinion.

The last 4 or 5 months I have had my fingers in a few too many pies.  I have been working on custom orders, trying to create patterns, worrying about how many hits I get each day on my blog, how many followers I have, trying to get ads, hosting blog parties, giveaways, and on and on and on. . .

I've gotten to the point that I avoid my sewing room, procrastinate creating things and read other people's blogs to avoid my own.

So I spent some time the last few days contemplating what I want out of this blog.  And here is what I came up with:

* I blog to share my crazy sewing addiction with others who suffer from the same affliction.

* I sew for fun-- a break from life.

* I don't like advertisements and don't want any on my blog.  I totally understand why others do it, but it is just not my thing.

* I don't enjoy sewing for money.  It stresses me out.

So, what does this mean?

Guilt free blogging!

I will blog when I want and enjoy creating again!

Okay, now that I have that out of my system. . .

come back tomorrow for a fun guest blog!

Good for you! It's always a great idea to step back and think about what you really want. Much better to continue to do what you love without making it into a chore. :) I look forward to all your wonderful creativity!

Sewing for money totally equals stress, for me I become my worst critic and think none of it is good enough.
Glad you have decided to enjoy your craft and blogging about it.

I have decided the same goes for me....know you are not alone in your addiction, and your thoughts!

And that's the way it should be, for yourself and for your readers. :)

Yes!! I am so totally in the same boat, girlfriend. Although I do like sewing for money - just not custom stuff. After a month or two doing custom work, I discovered that it *totally* stresses me out. Like you said - sewing is supposed to be fun!

Good for you! Definitely more fun for you and your readers. It can be hard to stay up on some blogs, especially those who post everyday! :) Make it fun!

I hear you - this is supposed to be a fun outlet but sometimes it becomes overwhelming. I look forward to your ideas on simplicity.

I understand and agree with you...
we must simplify blogging to enjoy sewing! this should not be a competitive sport....but I still want to read all about the stuff you make! this a beautiful addiction!

I totally agree with you.
I adore you blog and the simple approach you take towards thing!

I blog to share my crafts with my Family because they are so far away. The fact that other people read my blog is just a bonus to me. I don't do advertisements and I don't like big giveaways. I was contacted by a store and asked to do a giveaway but I just couldn't do it because it didn't seem right. I sew for me and for my girls but I can not bring myself to sell the items I make. I am more than willing to give them away though!

Awesome and I've taken the same road. A few months back I was obsessing about comments and followers and everything and not really enjoying creating. So I took a break and found that I blog just because I enjoy writing and sharing what I make or a cute story about my kids. If you like it follow, if not I don't care anymore. I blog when I want and about what I want. It has given me so much more time to think about creating new products. And I feel so much better about it!

I had the same problem a little while back. I'm to the point where I want to sew for gift-giving purposes, and thankfully Christmas is coming soon ;)

On a side note, does this mean no pattern for your GORGEOUS dress?? (haha, I had to spell check gorgeous...)

Good for you for assessing your goals! I also don't like sewing for money. I prefer sewing for us or sewing to give things away. I have enough ads now to pay for the actual blog & domain name so I'm content =)
