But I have a question for you.
Would you make this dress in any fabric other than the white satin?
I love to be able to show several different versions (example: Pattern Makeover Month), but I can't seem to picture this dress in any other fabrics. What do you think?
I keep thinking it might be fun to make a 'quilty' version, perhaps in Anna Maria Horner's Little Folks Voile?
Any suggestions? Bring it-- any idea!

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'd love to make it in a simple white cotton for a baptism dress. Or, yes, maybe a voile. As for a non-baptismy option, I love AMH's Little Folks patterns, but wouldn't go for a patchwork option myself, just an all-over simple print (one of the dobby stripes or simpler patterns, not the village ones).
I agree, I'd love it in a simple white cotton... but I can't imagine it having as much bounce, would it? I'm not sure. I absolutely love it though, it's beautiful!
I'm loving this pattern. I spent several days last week looking for it. My daughter finally gets to be sealed to us and I want to make dress for my 3 girls. Where did you get the pattern? I want to know what you decide, I was thinking of making it out of something besides satin too, but don't know what.

I don't think quilted... but I would love to see it in lots of different colors and some more casual fabrics.... I'd sport it (well, one of my 4 girls would...)

That is SUCH A CUTE DRESS. Wow! You must let us know how you make that button up back, and those flounces! Oh my goodness. Even if it only works in satin, who cares? It works SO WELL in satin, I want it in a million colors!
I have to agree about the patchwork. Between it and the bustles, it might be too busy. Would love it in different colors or small pattern. Love the satin
With this pattern, I think Satin is the way to go. On a simpler, straight pattern, bright colors and big bold prints look best.
But you have some amazing ideas and I want to see what you make, I end up loving whatever you do.

I think it would be pretty in any fabric. You always use such nice, fancy fabrics. I'm kind of a cotton girl. Sometimes a little velvet and satin, but usually just for Christmas. Oh and the organdy stuff quite a bit. I think it would be beautiful in cotton, but you know I love it. Can't wait for the pattern! (would love to test for you)
I am so excited that you are getting closer to finishing this pattern. :) My daughter will be so excited!. I would love to make it in a Liberty Lawn fabric or maybe a Sari Silk fabric. With all the pick-ups it seems to demand a fancier fabric. But that is just my opinion. It also might be fun to see it made up in the a Heather Ross Far Far Away double gauze.
what a nice dress! white satin is wonderful - but it looks too much for a wedding dress. I think it would be also cute in cotton (one colour - pastell)

I think it would be darling in a tiny polka dot pattern. :) Or the top part in a t-shirt fabric and the bottom out of a matching satin? That would be so sweet!

I would definitely do white versions for baptism but I would also consider doing it in other colors for a formal occasion, like a wedding or holidays. I think pink or blue satins would be lovely. Or maybe emerald green :)
I think it would look fabulous in the pink voile (with the white stripe). But I'm not sure how it would look in a voile- would it have as much loft?
I haaate sewing with satin, but I think it would be amazing in silk dupioni!! I'm sure it would hang differently, but I like the idea of one of the voiles too!
I absolutely LOVE ur baptism dress. If you do a pattern, I will be first in line to buy it!! Especially since my oldest is getting baptized in Oct. and she needs a dress this adorable!!
