The Staten Island Dress

This post is part of a month long series called 'Pattern Makeover Month.' I took a simple pattern (The Sweet Dress by Leila and Ben) and 'made-it-over' into many different styles. For more information, go here.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Change it up to a sassy little sundress!

Cut the main dress pieces as directed, adding one inch above the pattern on the neckline. Stitch the sideseams and hem the dress.

Make a rolled hem edge on the armholes. Iron the neckline over 1/2 inch and then another 1 inch. Stitch along the bottom of the fold, creating a 1 inch casing on the front and back.

For the sash I used a solid fabric. I cut the sash 60 inches long by 3 inches wide. The tails are cut at an angle. The edges are finished with a rolled hem edge on my serger.

Thread the sash through the casing.

Quite the model, isn't she?
