The Baptism Dress

I'm not sure that I have mentioned it before, but I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In our religion, children are baptized at the age of eight. A close friend of mine has her oldest daughter getting baptized in a couple of weeks and wanted a special dress for her daughter's big day. So, naturally I begged for her to let me make it. Lucky for me, she relented. And this time I didn't even 'copycat'- just had a little inspiration. I even made my own pattern-- wow! Big accomplishment.
I must have had heavenly help with this one, because it came out better than I could ever have hoped. Sending measurements long distance and having it fit her perfectly the first time, finding the right fabric, putting together a design that came together without a pattern- all of it! In addition to the dress turning out so well, her daughter happens to be gorgeous and to top that off, my friend is an AMAZING photographer- so you are all in for a real treat! Enjoy the show!

PS If you live in the Las Vegas area and need a photographer-- let me know! I would be happy to get you in touch with her!

Absolutely gorgeous! I've got 7 years to go before we'll need one, but I don't think that's enough time for me to hone my skills enough to make something half as beautiful.

Beautiful- the dress and the girl! I love the sash and the tulle, not your typical all white baptism dress but I like it better that way.

That is gorgeous! So cute and pretty with just the right amount of sass. Our family isn't LDS so we don't have any baptisms coming up, but if you ever wanted to make a dress for my little girl, you certainly wouldn't have to ask twice!

Very Pretty. The dress turned out gorgeous. I too am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I just got done making a baby blessing dress for a friend's baby shower this weekend. You should come on over to my blog and check it out. I definitely don't have the photography skills as your friend but I am happy with how it turned out being my first attempt with this type of fabric.
Again your dress was gorgeous! Great Job!

I want the pattern too!! I am not quite as rushed, I have 1.5 years until my DD will get baptized, but she would LOVE this!! I also like that it looks/seems that you could take off the pink if you wanted it more traditional too (my DH would like that). SOOOOO cute!

I still have over a year before my daughter is 8 but I already feel pressure to find something cute. I think the store bought ones are not very cute. If you are selling the dress or pattern please let me know, it is just gorgeous. I love that you added color, just what I was thinking I wanted to do.

I'll chime in with everyone else who has said so; I would like to buy this pattern if you ever decide to sell it. It's a long time before I will need a baptism dress (we just blessed her on Sunday March 6 2011 - I made her a gorgeous dress for that day), but I'd love to make this one for her. Thanks.

This is just sooo perfect! I found when I was googling whether my daughter would wear her new white dress into the font or wear the jumpsuit. I'm assuming, in this case, your friend's daughter changed to be baptised! I've been a member since I was 8, and for some reason I've never thought about it, until now when my own daughter is almost ready. I couldn't imagine her wearing a beautiful, new, white dress into the font, but I suppose it could be done. Maybe I'll go your route--make a dress that's white for the most part, but add a touch of color so there's no question that she'll be changing. hehe

Christening gown/christening dress there is no need for confusion. The terms are used in an interchangeable manner. Christening gown is used more often to describe the traditional style

LOVE this dress! Sadly, I didn't find your wonderful pattern for it until AFTER I had already reinvented the wheel and did my own. lol Murphy's Law, right?

For any others who are desperately trying to find the pattern, here's her link (it's not included anywhere in this post or on your tutorials page).

Thanks so much for the inspiration. The dress is truly gorgeous! And I can't believe you did it without having the little girl there to fit it to! Wicked talent.

We baptized our 11 year old daughter last year at easter vigil and her great aunt made her baptism outfit.she made her an adorable.poofy white top of the knees dress with the boufant shoulders and lace around the bottom of the dress.she attached a light pink bow to the back of the dress.she also made her a bonnet to match the dress with the same lace on it as the dress.she wore lace anklets and white mary janes with the dress to match.i got her a new white under shirt and then great aunt made her a white cloth baptismal diaper and then sewed the lace across the back of a pair of white plastic pants for her to wear over the diaper.the daughter looked stunning and very adorable in the white out fit and very dainty as well.when she made her first communion last may,i put the baptismal diaper and the ruffled rubberpants on her agian under her communion dress.

Every code I try either leaves a massive gap towards the top of
the page, or at the bottom from the page. Its definitely that code causing it.
. I've tried a lot of codes attempting to hide the blogs & extended network, however they all leave a white gap either at the top or at the bottom.. Anyone got one that doesnt cause the white gap? Or how to take away the white gap?.
