I'm Melissa Ann Stramel, creator and owner of Lilac Lane. My favorite thing to create is quilts, but I also like to crochet and design children's clothing, bags, and aprons. I love to play tennis and shop, decorate and paint. I am also a pharmacist (who rarely practices) and a stay at home mother. I aspire to someday be a fabric designer.
I own a store in my little town of Colby, Kansas, called Creations Gallery. It's a co-op of fifteen or so local artists and artisans. We take turns keeping the store open. My things are sold there as well as at Destination Kitchen in Norton, Kansas. I also maintain an etsy page. I'm also a pattern designer for Moda Bake Shop.
I started sewing at a very young age. The first thing I remember was a pillow with a picture of our house for my Grandma. I was around five. I made my first quilt at age seven or eight and have been quilting ever since. I even used to make a Christmas quilt every winter break from college.
My biggest inspiration is to make life beautiful and reflect the love of Christ in my everyday life. I try to do this in my home, my life, and my blog. My three children and husband are the center of my world and most of my sewing is for them. Come visit me for more photos and inspiration! Until then, happy sewing
