The Hideous Star (previously known as The Ruffly Christmas Star)

So, we moved during this past year (twice, if you want to get technical) and when I move (yes, we have moved ALOT), I sell almost everything before I start packing. Naturally, one of the first things to go is the Christmas decorations (I always want something different the next year anyway). With tight funds this year, I am really trying to be creative without spending a lot of money. Picked up decorations here and there at thrift stores and on-sale, planned a family night to decorate the tree, everyone was very excited. The only thing I didn't have was a star. I never found one in my thrift shopping and even the expensive ones at Wal-Mart were ugly. So, what to do? Well, create my own, of course!

I spent hours last night creating a star using this post from Ruffles 'n' Stuff as inspiration. I even took pictures to create a tutorial to share with all of you. It cost me nada and I thought it turned out pretty darn cute. I was frankly quite proud of myself.

So, I set up the tree, "fluffed" it (fakey!), and put the star on this afternoon in prepartion of our decorating family night.

Hubby arrives home. Girlies watching a movie. Me, cooking dinner in the kitchen. K3 shows Daddy the tree. He then comes in the kitchen and promptly tells me, "That is a pretty hideous-looking star." In his defense, he had no idea that I had made it. He probably figured that I bought it at a thrift store or somthing. But, still. . . talk about deflating the sails. So, as of tonight I am selling all my crafting supplies and quitting forever! (Or at least for the next hour or so. ;0)

Since no blog post is complete without a picture, I guess I will show it to you. (I do have a whole bunch of pictures, after all.)

And if any of you want your own hideous star, you know, as a practical joke or something, I can tell you how to do-- and it will be cheap!

That is it for now. Talk to you again soon (maybe).

I LOVE IT!! I wish I would've made one instead of buying the crapping wal-mart kind.

Oh don't be disheartened - please! I think it looks lovely!

My darling hates most things I make - If I listened to him I wouldn't make anything at all & be rocking in a corner mumbling to myself... ;)

first of all...eat a piece of chocolate so that when you bonk your hubby on the head, it won't be so hard because the chocolate's mellowed you a bit!

the star is simply fabulous! truly. i like it better than the original lamp! sew, nutz to anyone who doesn't like it! lol

hubby usually looks at me with the 'what is this and why' look after a lot of my stuff...so don't be disheartened!

I think it looks gauzy and angelic. I love it. Being a dude, he'd probably rather top the tree with a football...lol, can't wait til your next post. Keep on keeping on girl!!

Can you please post the tutorial. I've been looking for years for a star that doesn't cost an arm and a leg to go atop my tree. I love it and totally want to make one.
